LIDA MAE ROGERS
PRINCETON -- Lida Mae Hales Rogers, 79, died Tuesday at Good Hope Hospital in Erwin.
Born in Johnston County on Dec. 1, 1925, she was the daughter of the late William Henry and Nempie Sullivan Hales. She graduated from Glendale High School in 1944 and married Tommie Hubert Rogers in October of that same year. She lived in Princeton most of her life and was a resident of Princeton Senior Center before moving to Lillington two years ago for health reasons.
Mrs. Rogers enjoyed writing poetry and short stories and was the author of "Silver Threads," a monthly newsletter and personal missions outreach. She also enjoyed crocheting, visiting rest homes, sending cards to others and driving them to their doctor's appointments. She looked forward to her daily trips to her check her mailbox at the post office. Her other pastimes including watching Jeopardy and Christian TV programs and listening to Christian radio broadcasts. For many years she was a seamstress for her family and the public.
Mrs. Rogers was a licensed mission worker with the Pentecostal Holiness Church Conference and was a member of Bizzell Grove Pentecostal Holiness Church in Princeton. She served in a number of capacities including Sunday school teacher, Women's Ministry president and vice president, and as a full-time pastor and interim pastor for various churches over the years. She also held prayer meetings in homes, conducted revivals in many areas of the P.H. Conference, was a speaker for Women's Ministries, and served in numerous outreaches.
She and her late husband began the Sunday School Extension Outreach at the Smithfield Manor in 1976 and it is still an ongoing missions work through Bizzell Grove Pentecostal Holiness Church. To God be the glory, honor and praise!
Mrs. Rogers is survived by five children, Donnie E. Rogers and wife Gwen of Princeton, Benjamin "Ben" Rogers and wife Betty of Wilson, Candace R. Singleton and husband Wade of Lillington, LaRue R. Tart and husband John Tart II of Grantham, Will Rogers and wife Sherry of Goldsboro, four brothers, Linwood Hales and Ralph Hales of Kenly, Billy Hales of Fayetteville and Jimmy Hales of Pine Level; and 10 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, eight step-grandchildren and 15 step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Condary Hales and William Arthur Hales; and a sister, Helen Hales Balance.
The funeral for Mrs. Rogers will be held Friday at 7 p.m. in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home in Princeton. Burial will be on Saturday morning at 10 at Bizzell's Grove Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home immediately following the service on Friday night.
