Eva Rebecca Best, 82, formerly of 1405 Poplar St., died Monday at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

She was born in Wilson County on Sept. 1, 1923, to the late William Hodges Sr. and Sarah Taylor Hodges Lane. She graduated from Wayne County Public Schools and moved to Baltimore, Md. After graduating from beauty school in 1942, she owned and operated a beauty salon in Baltimore. She moved back to Goldsboro eight years ago and became an active member of St. Mark Church of Christ in Faro, where she sang in the choir and was a member of the Golden Age Auxiliary.

She is survived by one brother, William "Bro" Hodges (Kay) of Goldsboro; three sisters, Beulah M. Reid of Snow Hill, Alma Lane of Baltimore, Md., and Hazel Howard of New York; a special friend, Kenneth Becton of Goldsboro; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

The funeral will be held today at 2 p.m. at St. Mark Church of Christ, Faro. The Rev. Robert D. Hood will officiate. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.

The viewing was Saturday from 4 until 8 p.m. at Hamilton Funeral Chapel with the family present during the last hour.
