ESTHER PITTMAN

SELMA -- Esther "Pete" Stancil Pittman, 76, died Thursday morning at her home after a brief illness.

The funeral will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Bethany Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Pittman was the daughter of the late Albert and Martha Creech Stancil. She graduated from Glendale High School and worked for many years at Wendell Garment Co., Cutter Labs and Millie's Hot Dogs. She was a member of Bethany Missionary Baptist Church, and was one of the last active members of the church's founding family. Her hobbies were playing bingo with the ladies of Autumn Care Rest Home and watching the Tarheels play ball.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Ed Pittman; daughters, Hope Jackson and Joy Frye of Selma; sister , Doris Gebhardt of Deal, Md.; and one granddaughter and one great-grandson.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 9 at Parrish Funeral Home in Selma and request that memorial contributions be made to the Johnston Memorial Relay for Life Team, Att: Tracy Davis, P.O. Box 1376, Smithfield, N.C., 27577.
