LAGRANGE -- Virginia Lee Creech, 48, of 4044 Ben Dail Road, died Tuesday following an extended battle with complications from pressure sores and pneumonia.

Miss Creech was a quadriplegic after receiving a spinal cord injury in an automobile accident in February, 1992. She lived with her father, Cleve Creech, until his death in January.

She was a graduate of North Lenoir High School and the University of North Carolina. She worked as a reporter at newspapers in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Irving, Texas, and Kinston. At the time of her accident she was employed at Dobbs School. She was a member of St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Kinston.

She is survived by her mother, Helen Dawson Newell, and stepfather, Gary Newell, of Winterville; one sister, Elizabeth Creech Gunn, and brother-in-law, Bradford Gunn, of Raleigh; two aunts, Sue D. Ellis of St. James City, Fla., and Jane D. Peterson of Fernandina Beach, Fla.; an uncle, Jimmy Dawson of Atkinson, N.C.; along with many cousins and friends who helped care for her during her long ordeal.

A graveside service will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at Fairview Cemetery with Father Michael Singer officiating.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at Rouse Funeral Home.
