ROSSIE B. HOWELL
An Angel came down from Heaven and took Rossie Barnes Howell, age 81, of 420 Watery Branch Church Road, Stantonsburg, to be with her heavenly father on March 20th at Wayne Memorial Hospital, after a courageous battle with kidney and heart failure. She was surrounded by her family and friends who loved her so much. She never complained of her sickness and never questioned why. God saw how tired her body was, so he called her to Heaven to be with her loved ones who were already there.
Rossie was born in Wayne County on September 26, 1923 to the late Walter and Nina Pittman Barnes. She was a retired homemaker and farmer. She was a loving, wonderful, and faithful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, mother-in-law, sister, aunt and friend.
Rossie's hobbies were fishing and gardening. She was an outdoor person. She loved going to the beach and the mountains. She spent most of her life taking care of people that were sick. She was a very dedicated, caring and compassionate woman for the ones she cared for. She was their guardian angel.
Rossie was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. She enjoyed attending church services, special singings, church events, working in bible school, and especially reading her Bible. She didn't let her sickness stop her from attending church. She attended regular until her health declined. Rossie was a great believer in prayer and was always praying to her Heavenly Father. She was a lady of great faith. She had faith in God and was ready to go to her heavenly home. II Timothy 3:7 "I have fought a good fight I have finished my course, I have kept the faith."
Rossie enjoyed being with her family and friends. She was a very dedicated and active mother and grandmother in lives of her children and grandchildren. She was a faithful wife and also like a mother to her sons-in-law. She was an inspiration to her family and friends. She was and will always be our hero. She will be dearly missed.
Rossie was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin (Bud) Howell; a daughter, Faye Turnage and a granddaughter, Linda Turnage Bohne; two sisters, Elva Driver and Ida Lancaster; and four brothers, Raymond, Elmer, Eston and Preston Barnes.
She is survived by her daughter, Janet Cobb and husband David of Stantonsburg; a son-in-law, Allen Turnage of Wilson; a grandson, Tim Turnage and wife Kristy of Elm City; and three granddaughters, Sandra Turnage Mooneyham and husband Mitchell of Wilson, Pamela Turnage Creech and husband Greg of Wilson, Ashley Cobb of Stantonsburg; six great-grandchildren, Hunter and Cameron Turnage, Mindy and Cody Mooneyham, and Harley and Amber Creech; and a brother, Oland Barnes and wife Snookie of Sims.
The funeral service will be held at Calvary Baptist Church in Goldsboro on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with the Reverend's Pete Bass, John Strickland and J.D. Eddins officiating. Burial will be in the Pikeville Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 until 9 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at the home of David and Janet Cobb, 420 Watery Branch Church Road.
The family wishes to express their appreciation to Dr. Dunmire, Dr. Neumann, Gambro South, all staff at Wayne Memorial Hospital who cared for her, Vandora Yelverton, home health, DD staff and Cap staff at H.O.P.E., Pastor Pete and Alma Bass, church members, family, friends, and special neighbor and friend, Blanche Horne.
