ARNOLD G. NICHOLS

The funeral for Arnold Garfield Nichols, 89, will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home. Burial, with full military honors, will be in Wayne Memorial Park.

Mr. Nichols died Tuesday morning at the home of his daughter, Charlene Lane, in Southport.

He was born in Wilkesboro to the late Millard F. and Bessie B. Nichols and was married to the late Gladys Nichols. He served five years in the U.S. Army and 25 years and the U.S. Air Force and was a veteran World War II, the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. After retiring from the military he worked for the State of North Carolina and retired from O'Berry Center after 15 years of service.

He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Regina Nichols of Shallotte, Vanessa Jacobson of Bolivia, Charlene and Alan Lane of Southport, Shelby and John Dorfer of Fuquay-Varina and Trudy and Walter Barnes of Warsaw; and 19 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Friday from 7 until 9 p.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home, and other times at the home of Charlene and Alan Lane, 4927 Carol St., Southport, N.C., 28461.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the United Way of Wayne County, 308 N. William St., Goldsboro, N.C., 27530.
