ARMETTA BARNES

Armetta "Meat" Barnes, daughter of the late Clyde and Jim Parks, was born on October 18, 1914, and made her transition of February 19, 2025, at home in Irvington, N.J.

She was the widow of Claude Barnes Sr. and the mother of the late Claude (Pete) Barnes Jr.

She was educated in the Wayne County Public School System. At an early age, Armetta became a member of St. Delight Holy Church of LaGrange, N.C. She kept her family ever aware of the power and goodness of God. Her pride for her family led her to encourage them to accept the challenges of life.

Armetta is survived by her daughter, Mary E. Jones (Jesse) of Irvington, N.J.; three sons, Bennie (Elsie) of Yardville, N.J., James Earl (Patricia) of Fayetteville, N.C., and Johnnie Lee (Linda) of Bowie, Md.; one aunt, Effie Coley of Goldsboro, N.C.; two sisters, Cassie Taylor and Carrie Mae Hamilton, both of Goldsboro, N.C.; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

The funeral service will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at St. Delight United Holy Church, Parkstown. Bishop Leamon Dudley will officiate. Burial will be in the Old Mill Cemetery.

There will be a wake tonight from 7 until 8 in the Rhodes Chapel.

Arrangements are being handled by Rhodes Funeral Home, Goldsboro
