MERLENE GRAHAM COX

MOUNT OLIVE -- Merlene Graham Cox, 77, of the Grantham community, died Monday, February 14th, at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

She was born in Sampson County to the late Pete and Lettie Graham. She was married on March 18th, 1946, to Joseph C. Cox. She was a longtime member of Eureka Christian Church, with perfect Sunday School attendance for more than 50 years. She retired from the Wayne County Farm Agency in January 2002, after working more than 30 years. She was also a member of the "Birthday Girls".

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Hubert, John Earl and Lester Graham, and two sisters, Josephine Graham and Peggy Warren.

She is survived by her husband of 58+ years, Joseph C. Cox; two daughters, Janice Harrell and husband Selby and Brenda Williams and husband Edward; four grandchildren, Scott Williams, Brian Harrell and wife, April, Kelly W. Hughes and husband, Michael and Jamie Harrell; and one great-grandchild, Mckalyn "little bit" Hughes, all of Grantham.

The funeral service will be held Thursday, February 17th, at 7 p.m. at Eureka Christian Church with the Rev. Frank Purvis and Rev. Chris Thompson officiating. Visitation will be immediately following the service in the church fellowship hall.

A graveside service will be held at the Hillcrest Cemetery in Newton Grove on Friday, February 18th at 11 a.m.. The family will be receiving visitors at other times at the residence of Edward and Brenda Williams at 318 Raynor Mill Road.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Eureka Christian Church, 2036 Dobbersville Road, Mount Olive or to the Jordans Chapel Fire Department, 1688 Raynor Mill Road, Mount Olive.
