EDWARD BOSTIC
Edward C. Bostic, 91, of 312 S. Virginia St., died Friday at his home.
The funeral will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the First African Baptist Church, 803 Harris St. The Rev. Antonio Lawrence will officiate. Burial will be in Wayne Memorial Park.
Mr. Bostic was born in Goldsboro on March 10, 1913, to the late Edward Robert and Mildred Cobb Bostic. He graduated from Dillard High School in 1928 and received a bachelor of science degree from Johnson C. Smith University. After serving in the U.S. Army he was employed as a carrier with the United States Postal Service until he retired in 1976.
He was the first African-American Civil Service Examiner in Wayne County and was one of the founding members of the Wayne County Council on Aging. He was active in his community and the WAGES Meals on Wheels program.
He was a member of Shiloh Presbyterian Church, which is now Faith Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include his wife, Ernestine Ward Bostic of the home; one daughter, Edwina C. Wright of Bowie, Md.; and a sister, Mildred B. Fennell of New York, N.Y.
The viewing hours will be from 3 until 9 today at Hamilton Funeral Chapel.
