SYLVESTER SMITH
MOUNT OLIVE -- Sylvester David Smith, 96, of 202 E. Hillsboro St., died Thursday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at St. James Disciple Church of Christ with Bishop Chester Aycock officiating. Burial will follow in the Carver Memorial Park.
He is survived by his wife, Mary I. Smith of the home; two sons, Arthur Tripp of Washington, D.C., and Bill Tripp of New Bern; one daughter, Daisy Jones of Washington, D.C.; and five step-children, Mary Jones of Washington, D.C., Ralphael Cromartie of Orangeville, Calif., Bobbie Cromartie of Los Angeles, Calif., Adloise Cromartie of Alexandria, Va., and Alton Cromartie of Mount Olive.
A viewing will be held Monday from 3 until 7 p.m. at the Garris Funeral Home Chapel. The family will be present to receive friends from 6 until 7 p.m.
