CHRYSTAL BROADWELL

KINSTON -- Chrystal Herring "Chris" Broadwell, 72, of 354 Camelia St., died Friday at her home.

The funeral will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Rouse Funeral Home in Kinston. The Rev. Haywood Smith and Dr. Bill Thompson will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.

Mrs. Broadwell was born in Lenoir County to the late Oscar Edward Herring Sr. and Katie Garris Herring. She was a certified medical assistant and her career included employment with Dr. Tom Parrott, Dr. Lynwood Williams and Dr. Ross Fogleman until her retirement in 2004. She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church and the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution and was an avid genealogist.

She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Guerry Broadwell; one son, Ray Broadwell, and his wife, Melissa; three granddaughters, Kristin Broadwell, Leah Broadwell and Lauren Broadwell; four sisters, Charlotte Moore, Francis Smith and husband Phil, Rachel Dawson and husband Lon, and Lucille Dawson; four brothers, Oscar Herring Jr. and wife Evelyn, Jack Herring and wife Nina, Jimmy Herring and wife Linda, and Fred Herring and wife Diane; brother-in-law, Dell Broadwell and wife Elaine; two sisters-in-law, Betty Broadwell and Ylanta Dixon and husband Thomas.

She was preceded in death by a son, Bernie Broadwell.

The family will receive friends today from 5 until 7 p.m. at Rouse Funeral Home, and at other times at the home.
