LESSIE ASWELL

GRANTHAM -- Lessie Best Aswell, 87, of 400 Sambo Lambert Road, died at the home of her son, Gary, in Leland , N.C., on Wednesday, January 12.

A native of Wayne County, she was the daughter of the late Effie and Mary Blackman Best and was married to the late Wayne Benjamin Aswell. Mrs. Aswell was a member of Selah Christian Church.

Funeral services will be held at Selah Christian Church with Rev. Patrick Muston officiating at 2 o'clock on Saturday, January 15. Burial will follow in Wayne Memorial Park.

Mrs. Aswell is survived by her daughter, Jean Aswell Hollowell of Grantham; her sons, Bobby Aswell and wife Lou of Corbin, Ky.; Edward Aswell and wife Mary of Grantham; and Gary Aswell and wife Ann of Leland; her grandchildren, Tonya Weaver, Kim Bunch and husband David, Bobby Ray Aswell and wife Jean, John Aswell and wife Jane, Kristy Oates and husband Donny, Breann and Kayla Aswell, Roy Watkins, Pam Beurmann and husband Rick, David Watkins and wife Stacy; her great-grandchildren, Ashley and Will Bunch, Nicole and Natalie Ann Aswell, Natalie Faith Aswell, Tyler and Chris Beurmann, Bryce, Connor, and Alexandria Watkins; two sisters-in-law, Clara Best Toomey and Agnes Best Rogers; and a wonderful caretaker, Becky Ellers of Leland.

She was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters, Bill Best, Robert Best, Ralph Best, Lillie Best, Etta B. McDonald, Annie B. Mozingo, Viola Best, and Lorena B. Edwards.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to Selah Christian Church, 3304 Stevens Mill Road, Goldsboro, N.C., 27530; or to Lower Cape Fear Hospice & Life Care Center, 725-A Wellington Avenue, Wilmington, N.C., 28401.

The family will receive friends at Seymour Funeral Home on Friday, January 14, from 7 until 9 p.m., and other times at her daughter's home at 3304 Stevens Mill Road in Grantham.
