JAMES DAUGHTRY

Benjamin James Daughtry Jr., 68, died Tuesday, January 11, 2005 at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

He was the son of Vera Bennett Daughtry of Goldsboro and the late Benjamin James Daughtry. Mr. Daughtry graduated from Goldsboro High School and attended Guilford College. He served his country in the United States Army. Mr. Daughtry retired from the United States Postal Service as station manager at Berkeley Station. He was an active member throughout his life with the Boy Scouts of America and the Order of the Arrow and served as Scout Master for Troop 11 for many years. Mr. Daughtry was the recipient of the Silver Beaver Award.

Mr. Daughtry enjoyed volunteering for the Wayne County Special Olympics and especially enjoyed officiating High School football, volleyball and softball.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Elizabeth J. Daughtry; his daughter, Sarah Daughtry of Goldsboro; his son, Benjamin James Daughtry III and his wife, Kelly, of Maryland; his grandchildren, Emily Faith Dobbs of Maryland and Benjamin James Daughtry, IV of Maryland; his sister-in-law, Joyce Cox and husband, Don and their children, Johanna and Ritchie; his brother-in-law, Dr. Ashton Griffin and wife Shirley and children, Ashton Griffin IV and wife Paula and Margaret Bailey and husband Scott and their children, Megan, Allison and Brittany. He is also survived by special friends, Barbara Doerter, Justin Newman and J.R. Everette.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Bennett Daughtry Griffin.

A graveside service will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at Wayne Memorial Park with Dr. Homer E. Morris and Rev. Bob Bame officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Boy Scouts of America, 316 E. Walnut Street, Goldsboro, N.C., 27530; Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 2402 Wayne Memorial Drive, Goldsboro, N.C., 27534; or to the Wayne County Special Olympics, 1300 S. Harding Drive, Apt. 1304, Goldsboro, N.C., 27534.

The family will receive friends at their home, 508 N. Audubon Avenue, and at the home of his mother, 205 S. Jefferson Street, Goldsboro on Thursday, after 6 p.m.

Arrangements are with Seymour Funeral Home.
