THOMAS B. JACKSON
MOUNT OLIVE -- Thomas B. Jackson, 87, of 482 Britt Road, died Friday at Nash General Hospital in Rocky Mount.
Born in Wayne County, he was the son of the late William Mack and Rella Belle Hood Jackson, and brother of the late David Jackson and Barney Jackson. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Mount Olive, the Loyal Soldiers Sunday School Class and the Joy Group. He was a former member, Deacon, and Sunday School Teacher at Falling Creek Baptist Church. He was a Veteran of the US Army having served during World War II in the Quartermaster Corps, 250th Quartermaster Depot Company, Alcan Highway; served with the 3rd Army in Scotland, Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Central Europe, and received the American Theater Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Medal with four bronze stars, the Service Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. He was a retired Civil Service Employee with 32 years of service with the Veteran's Administration Hospital.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church in Mount Olive. Dr. Dennis Atwood will officiate. Burial will follow in Wayne Memorial Park.
Mr. Jackson is survived by his wife, Hilda B. Jackson; two daughters, Brenda Jackson Nelson and husband, Bill Nelson of Summerfield, Fla., Diane Jackson Carter and husband, Gene Carter of Littleton; one brother, Osco Jackson of Monroe; one sister, Tempie Jackson Jones of Pikeville; four grandchildren, Chris Nelson and wife, Mara Nelson, Kami Nelson, Tara Nelson, and Jill Carter.
The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6 until 8 at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home, and other times at the home of Mrs. Tempie Jones, 708 Gurley-Dairy Road, in Pikeville.
In addition to flowers, the family request memorial gifts, in Mr. Jackson's memory, be directed to the First Baptist Church, 300 N. Chestnut St., Mount Olive, N.C., 28365.
