WARSAW -- David Jerald Bland, 78, died Monday at his home.

The funeral was held today at 11 a.m. at Warsaw Presbyterian Church.

Mr. Bland was a native of Turkey and was the son of the late Arthur and Thelma Colwell Bland. He served in the United States Army during World War II and retired from The Babcock and Wilcox Company in Wilmington with 31 years of service. He then managed the Porta Tool Company before moving to Warsaw in 1990, where he helped restore the LP Best House and Veterans Museum.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Rhoda Cotton Bland; two daughters, Mary Bland Congleton of Wilmington and Connie Bland Newberry of New York; one son, David Gerald Bland of New York; six grandchildren, Georgiana, Sebastian and Inigo Bland and Henry, Edward and George Newberry; two sisters, Nell Bland Lloyd of Wilmington and Betty Jean Bland Butler of Turkey; and his sister-in-law, Jean Cotton Stephens, and brother-in-law, Billy Stephens, of Kenansville.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to LP Best House and Veterans Museum, 119 East Hill St., Warsaw; or to Warsaw Presbyterian Church, East Hill St., Warsaw, N.C. 28398.
