MINNIE M. DAVIS

Minnie McCluer Davis, 102, of Beaufort, died Saturday, December 25, 2004 at Snug Harbor on Nelson Bay.

She was born in Richmond, Virginia on July 5, 1902, to the late Charles Parry McCluer and Elizabeth Marshall McCluer. When a child, the family moved to Tarboro where Mrs. Davis grew up. She attended Flora MacDonald School and Peace College.

Mrs. Davis was active in the Girl Scout Council and the Red Cross. She was a life-long Presbyterian. Her home church was Howard Memorial Presbyterian Church, Tarboro. During her lifetime, Mrs. Davis was also a member of Presbyterian churches in Goldsboro, Raleigh and Winston-Salem.

A private family graveside service will be held in Greenwood Cemetery in Tarboro, North Carolina. Her niece, Peggy Rodgers Youngblood Leggett, Lay Minister of the Presbyterian Church, and the Rev. James McChesney, retired pastor of the Presbyterian Church, will officiate.

She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Davis Martin of Beaufort; grandchildren, Robert S. Martin of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Lynn M. Evans of Charlotte, John Davis Martin of Wilmington; great-grandsons, David and Andrew Evans and Garrett and James Martin; nieces, Peggy Rodgers Youngblood Leggett, Marshall Youngblood Lee and Marsha Sams Thrift.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Davis was predeceased by her husband of 44 years, Robert Mayo Davis in 1968 and by her sisters, Margaret McCluer Youngblood and Elizabeth McCluer Sams.

The family requests that memorials be made to Howard Memorial Presbyterian Church, 303 E. St. James Street, Tarboro, N.C., 27886; or to the charity of one's choice.
