PIKEVILLE --Deborah Sue Holloman Gurley, 44, of 886 Gurley Dairy Road, died Sunday at Wayne Memorial Hospital following a lengthy illness.

The funeral will be held by the graveside on Thursday at 2 p.m. at Creech Cemetery in Johnston County. Pastor Jimmy Aarp will officiate.

Mrs. Gurley had worked as a nurses' assistant for 20 years and was taking classes to become a registered nurse. She attended First Pentecostal Holiness Church and the Holt's Pond Church of God.

She is survived by her husband, Milton E. Gurley; two stepsons, Ret. Col. Dwight E. Gurley, M.D., of Anchorage, Alaska, and Douglas S. Gurley of Wilmington; one stepdaughter, Kay Annette Gurley of Goldsboro; a half brother, Edward Lee Melton of Faison; and seven grandchildren.

Flowers are welcome or memorial gifts may be directed to the Gideon's.

Family members will greet friends at the graveside immediately following the service, and other times at the home.

Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home & Crematory is serving the family.
