REV. JAMES G. LUPTON

SIMPSON -- Rev. James Glenn Lupton, 85, died Thursday.

A funeral service will be conducted Sunday at 1:30 p.m. in the Wilkerson Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Pinewood Memorial Park.

A Cedar Island native, he was educated at Louisburg College and Duke University. He was an ordained minister in the United Methodist Church for over 50 years, holding pastorates in Autryville, Rocky Mount, New Bern, Seven Springs and Simpson, prior to his retirement.

He was married to Lydia Daniels Lupton for 44 years, upon her death in 1984. Subsequently, he married Virginia Smith McDonald in 1985 and she survives. In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Howard James Lupton, in 1994.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia Lupton of the home; two sons, Bruce Lupton and his wife, Betty, of Greenville and Glenn Lupton and his wife, Doris, of Mount Olive; a daughter-in-law, Vicki Lupton of Raleigh; four stepchildren, John McDonald and his wife, Arlene, of Japan, Laura Burke and her husband, Dennis, of New Bern, Leslie Anderson and her husband, Wayne, of Oriental and Linda McDonald of Greenville and her special friend, Charlie Ross; five grandchildren, James Lupton and his wife, Wanda, Glenn Lupton and his wife, Theresa, and Kim Bostick and her husband, Doug, all of Greenville, Anita Howard and her husband, Robert, of Kill Devil Hills, and Greg Lupton of Raleigh; seven great-grandchildren; and five step-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 5 until 7 p.m. at Wilkerson Funeral Home.
