RACHEL WHITFIELD
KINSTON -- Rachel Jones Whitfield, 71, of 5737 Hwy. 55 W., died Wednesday at Lenoir Memorial Hospital.
She was preceded in death by her parents Frances Jones Whitfield and Isaac Carr Whitfield, her sister, Marlette Whitfield, two brothers, Melvin Whitfield and Floyd Whitfield, and a sister-in-law, Sybil Whitfield.
She was retired from New Hanover County Schools as a Physical Education Teacher and coach. She was an avid gardener.
Miss. Whitfield is survived by her sister, Addie C. Stroud; her brothers, Hubert Whitfield and wife, Elizabeth, and William D. "Billy" Whitfield; two sisters-in-law, Marguerite Whitfield and Louie Dell Whitfield, both of Kinston; and a very special friend, Paul Dunn and family.
A funeral service will be held Monday morning at 11 at Howard-Carter Funeral Home with the Rev. Joann Turner officiating. Burial will follow at Pinelawn Memorial Park.
Visitation will be Sunday evening from 7 until 8:30 at the funeral home, and other times at the home of her sister, Addie Campbell Stroud, 5727 Hwy. 55 W., in Kinston.
