HELEN LANE

FARO -- Helen Taylor Lane, 87, 612 Faro Road, died Thursday at her home.

Helen was born December 6, 1916, in Greene County to the late Mark and Bessie Hollowell Taylor. She graduated from East Carolina Teachers College and taught school in Wayne County for a number of years. Helen was the widow of William H. "Bill" Lane Sr. and they made their home in the Eureka-Faro Community of Wayne County. She was a member of Yelverton United Methodist Church, where she had taught Sunday School for many years and served on numerous committees. She had also served on the Eureka School Board.

After starting her family, Helen stopped teaching to raise her four children. Her sweet spirit and sense of humor will be sorely missed.

Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Yelverton United Methodist Church with Rev. Bill Creech officiating. Burial will follow in Wayne Memorial Park.

She is survived by her daughters, Betsy Lane Hales and husband, Jes, of Prattsville, Ala., and Faye Lane Thigpen and husband, John Ed, of Goldsboro; one son, William H. "Billy" Lane Jr. of Faro; her grandchildren, Jeff Hales and wife, Kim, of Atlanta, Ga.; Jessica "Sissy" Hales of Montgomery, Ala., Ryan Lane and wife, Becky Jo, of Pikeville, Christopher Thigpen of Asheville, Jonathan Lane and wife, Jennifer, of Pikeville and Mark Hales of Prattville, Ala.; her great-grandchildren, Louren Hales, Ashley Hales, Victoria Lane and Bridgette Lane; and one sister, Alma Taylor Poole of Largo, Fla.
