LILLIE M. ELLIS

Lillie Mae Mathews Ellis, 91, died Sunday.

The funeral was to be held today at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Massey Funeral Home in Roanoke Rapids, with the Rev. Don Mason officiating. Burial was to be in Crestview Memorial Cemetery.

Mrs. Ellis was born on May 30, 1913, in Halifax County and was the daughter of the late James Robert Jefferson Mathews and Annie Green Mathews. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Bobbie Carter Ellis, and a granddaughter, Nichole M. Ellis.

Mrs. Ellis worked at J.P. Stevens and Company in Roanoke Rapids for over 40 years. She was a member of World Wide Church of God and served as its historian for many years. Her hobbies were jigsaw and word puzzles, crocheting, reading and writing poetry.

She is survived by two sons, Frederick C. Ellis of Goldsboro and Richard D. Ellis and his wife, Vicki, also of Goldsboro; one grandson, Thomas C. Ellis of New Orleans, La., and two great-grandchildren, Austin C. Ellis and Cameron C. Ellis.

The family was to receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service today.
