Charles Leon Best, 72, of 728 Luther Drive, died Sunday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Woods Chapel Church. Dr. Ricky Dawson will officiate. Burial will be in Best Cemetery.

Mr. Best was born in Wayne County on Oct. 8, 1932, to the late Dock and Luberta Smith Best. He attended Wayne County Public Schools and served in the United States Army.

He is survived by his wife, Gladys Coley Best of the home; a son, John Adams of LaGrange; five brothers, Thomas Best of New York, John E. Hagans of Red Oak and Alton Best, Devaughn Best and Lynn Best of Goldsboro; four sisters, Arletha Coley and Wilhimenia Best of New York, Mary Grainger of New Jersey and Margaret Best of Texas; and one granddaughter.

The viewing hours will be from 3 until 9 p.m. on Thursday at Hamilton Funeral Chapel of Goldsboro.
