JULIAN W. BEARD

The funeral for retired Senior Master Sgt. Julian Wade Beard, 69, of 504 Sherwood Ave., was to be held today at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Howell Funeral Home & Crematory, with Chaplains Steward Smith and Gary Ziccardi officiating. Interment, with full military honors, was to be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.

Mr. Beard died Friday at Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro.

He was a native of Lenoir County and was the son of Julia Hill Beard of Kinston and the late Joseph Beard. He retired from the United States Air Force with 28 years of service and attended Seymour Johnson Air Force Base Chapel.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Sylvia Beard; two sons, Michael Beard of the home and Brian Beard and wife, Belinda, of Goldsboro; one daughter, Janet Beard, and friend Bob Barker, of Denver, Colo.; two brothers, Buddy Beard and wife, Mary, of Kinston and Ray Beard and wife, Geneva, of Kinston; a half brother, Malcolm Beard and wife, Doris, of Havelock; one sister, Connie Heath and husband, Donald, of Pink Hill; and two grandchildren, Heather Beard and Samantha Beard.

The family received friends Sunday night from 7 until 8:30 at Howell Funeral Home & Crematory, and other times at the residence.
