HARRY H. LANE

Harry Hannon Lane, 77, of 3100 Summit Rd., died Thursday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Lane was preceded in death in 1999 by his loving wife of 49 years, Edna Earl Outland Lane. Three brothers, Tommy, Frank and Lewis, also preceded him in death.

After 43 years of employment, Mr. Lane retired from the Goldsboro News-Argus where he worked in the typesetting and composing department. He was a graduate of Goldsboro High School.

A native of Goldsboro, Mr. Lane was the son of the late Mark and Lillie Lane.

He was a member of Daniels Memorial United Methodist Church, where he was active in the Sunday school and the men's fellowship group. He was also a member of Wayne County Ruritan Club.

Mr. Lane enjoyed fishing, golfing and gardening year-round. He volunteered his time delivering meals for WAGES Senior Meals Program, and for the annual CROP Walk for Hunger. He was active in his church's Sunday school and men's fellowship group.

Mr. Lane is survived by his two sons, David Hannon Lane and wife Debbie of Greensboro and Jon Mark Lane and wife Renee of Fayetteville; two brothers, David Lane of Surfside Beach, S.C., and Kenneth Lane of San Diego, Calif.; and one sister, Frances Lane Perry of Selma. He adored and was most proud of his three granddaughters, Brooke Lane Kelly and husband, Chris, of Greensboro; Whitney Hannon Lane of Jacksonville, Fla.; and Katherine Victoria Lane of Fayetteville.

His kind and loving spirit will be missed by his family and friends.

Mr. Lane's sons, David and Jon, would like to thank Jimmy and Ramona Mitchell, Richard and Marie Benton, Nelson and Edith Mitchell, family members and friends at Daniels Memorial Church for their friendship and extraordinary support and care during their father's lengthy illness. Mr. Lane was blessed with these wonderful people in his life.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Daniels Memorial United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Wayne Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends today from 6 until 8 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home, 1300 Wayne Memorial Drive, Goldsboro.
