WILSON -- Joyce Thornton Boone, 49, of Wilson died Tuesday.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the First Christian Church of Wilson. Dr. Lynn White will officiate. Burial will be private.
Mrs. Boone graduated from Ashley Hall in Charleston, S.C., and attended Appalachian State University. She graduated from Atlantic Christian College with degrees in business administration and nursing. She worked in the Wake Medical Center from 1988 until 1991.
She was a member and deacon of First Christian Church, where she served in various leadership roles. She was an active volunteer at Margaret Hearne Elementary School and Vinson Bynum Elementary School and was the current president of Forest Hills Middle School PTO.
Mrs. Boone was a member of the Barton College Alumni Council since 1998, was to have been installed as its president in 2005, and was serving as an alumni representative on the Barton College Board of Trustees.
She is survived by her husband, Douglas H. Boone; one son, Samuel T. Boone of the home; her mother, Gladys E. Thornton of Goldsboro; her stepmother-in-law, Teri R. Boone of Wilson; a sister, Linda T. Davidson of Wilmington; two brothers, David E. Thornton of Elizabeth, Colo., and Joseph R. Thornton and wife, Laura H., of Mendham, N.J.; a sister-in-law, Judie B. and husband Charles W. Whitley of Wilson; and a brother-in-law, Thomas E. Boone and wife, Judy, of Wilson.
The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 on Thursday night at Joyner's Funeral Home, 4100 US 264-Alt. West, and at other times at the residence.
