TOM SMITH
James Amaziah "Tom" Smith, 83, of 1261 Mark Edwards Road, died Sunday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
A graveside service will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Smith Family Cemetery on Hood Swamp Road with the Rev. McGee Creech and McGee Smith officiating.
Mr. Smith was born in Greene County and lived in Wayne County for most of his life. He was the son of the late Mark and Arzella Smith and was a graduate of New Hope High School. Mr. Smith was a retired farmer in the Hood Swamp Community and was a veteran of the United States Coast Guard, having served in the Pacific during World War II.
Mr. Smith is survived by his daughter, Toni LaNelle "Bunnie" Smith of Goldsboro; his son, J.T. "Rabbit" Smith and his wife, Wanda, of Goldsboro; two grandsons, Jay Smith and Justin Smith of Goldsboro; and his sisters, Belle Reeves of Goldsboro, Retha Peele of Goldsboro and Annie Rollins of Billings, Mont.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Joseph Harper Smith and Dyke Smith, and his sisters, Doris Cobb, Willie Vinson and Jeanette Sutton.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 until 9 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home, and other times at the home of his son, 1252 Mark Edwards Road, Goldsboro.
