REV. CLARENCE STRICKLAND

LAGRANGE -- The Rev. Clarence William Strickland, 88, of 305G South Caswell Street, died Wednesday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, at 2 p.m. at Providence United Methodist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Sherwood Lassiter and the Rev. Randall Barfield officiating.

Rev. Strickland was born in Wayne County to the late Lofton and Addie Capps Strickland. Prior to becoming a minister, he worked at Prince Tire Company, retiring with 28 years of service. He attended both Fields Chapel and Brogden Chapel churches.

He is survived by his wife, Janie Wilkins Strickland; two sons, William H. "Billy" Strickland of Goldsboro and David M. Strickland of Gloucester, Va.; four stepsons, Murray Wayne Johnson of Thomasville, Ronald Glenn Johnson of Greensboro, Victor Ray Johnson of Smithfield, Va., and Troy Lewis Mitchell of LaGrange; one sister, Thelma Strickland Barfield of Dudley; and 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by five brothers and four sisters.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 9 at Rouse Funeral Home, and at other times at the residence.
