GERALD BAINE

Retired United States Air Force Master Sgt. Gerald Carlisle Baine, 66, died Thursday at Wayne Memorial Hospital following a period of declining health.

A graveside service will be held at a later date in South Carolina with full military honors. The Rev. Ray Smeltzer will officiate.

Mr. Baine was born in Marion, S.C., March 1, 1938. He served in the United States Air Force from October 1956 to September 1982. During his Air Force career he was stationed at bases in Texas, Kansas, North Carolina, Thailand and Korea. He was also a veteran of the Vietnam War. He was in the Strategic Air Command for 19 years as a jet aircraft mechanic and ground crew chief. He served in Tactical Air Command for seven years retiring as Non-Commissioned Officer In Charge of Maintenance Plans and Scheduling.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Gibson Baine of Goldsboro, and their children and families: Gerald Jr., Patricia and Caleb Baine of Princeton, Linda D. Baine of Goldsboro, Mark R. and Joy Baine of Spartanburg, S.C., L. Russell Baine of Goldsboro and Christopher L., Kimberly, Dylan and Josie Baine of Independence, Ky. He is also survived by brothers, Robert R. Baine, Jr. of Columbia, S.C., and Richard W. Baine of Raleigh; his sisters, Mrs. George Baker (Sarah) and Mrs. Edwin Brown (Jennel) of Marion, S.C., and Mrs. Curtis Doggette (Peggy) of Pawleys Island, S.C.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Robert R. and Ethel Campbell Baine of Marion, S.C., his brother, B.W. Baine. and his sister, Dorothy B. Atkinson.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 6 until 8 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home, and other times at the residence, 105 Lariat Road, Goldsboro.
