CARLTON SMITH

WARSAW -- Carlton Fields "Chip" Smith, 76, a former resident of Magnolia, died Thursday at GlenCare Nursing Home.

Mr. Smith was the son of the late William and Esther Davis Smith of Wayne County. He was a member, deacon and former teacher of the men's Sunday school class at Magnolia Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Theron Smith, Rudolph Smith, Garland Smith, Bill Smith, and Lyman Smith.

He is survived by his wife, Jeanette Hamilton Smith; one son, Carlton R. Smith of Salemburg; two daughters, Annette Smith Huffman of Pink Hill and Carlette Smith Bledsoe of Kenansville; one brother, Aaron Smith of Dudley; and seven grandchildren, David Huffman, Ben Huffman, John Franklin Smith, Elizabeth Smith, Patrick Bledsoe, Josie Bledsoe, and Matthew Bledsoe.

The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. today at Magnolia Baptist Church, Corner of Highway 903 and Highway 117, Magnolia. The Rev. Norman Aycock and the Rev. Larry Blount will officiate. Burial will follow at Devotional Gardens, Highway 24/50 East, Warsaw.
