EVELYN N. SAUNDERS
Evelyn Newsome Saunders, 64, of New Bern went to be with the Lord Thursday.
Evelyn was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. She was a Oncology Nurse with Craven Regional Medical Center for 18 years. Evelyn loved the Lord and was a loving and devoted daughter, wife, sister, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a friend to many and will be remembered for her great sense of humor, witt, and love for people.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her father, James Newsome; and her sister, Linda R. Newsome.
Funeral services were held Sunday at 3 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church, 1812 Rhem Ave., New Bern. The Rev. Bill Wingrad, the Rev. Dwight Williams and the Rev. Stephen Cuthrell officiated. Burial followed at Lakeside Chapel, Greenleaf Memorial Park.
She is survived by her husband, Reid M. Saunders of the home; her mother, Maggie M. Newsome of Goldsboro; one son, Michael E. Saunders and wife, Joan of New Bern; one step-son, Michael D. Saunders of Kanapolis; one step-daughter, Kim C. Strickland of New Bern; two sisters, Ethelene N. Darden and Betty N. Johnson, both of Goldsboro; two granddaughters, Kimberly S. McGrew and Crystal L. Strickland, both of Summerville, S.C.; three great-grandchildren, Christopher A. McGrew, Laura D. McGrew and Kelly R. McGrew, all of Summerville, S.C.; one great step-son, Gary Steven Jordon of Summerville, S.C.; one step-grandson, Don J. Cappo of New Bern.
The family received friends Sunday from 1 until 3 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
