RAYMOND C. JONES

PRINCETON -- Raymond Clayton Jones, 86, of 776 Luby Smith Road, died Monday at Johnston Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be held Thursday at 7 p.m. at Princeton Baptist Church. The Rev. Don Price will officiate. The committal service will be held on Friday at 10 a.m. at Princeton Cemetery.

Mr. Jones was born on July 15, 1918, and was the son of the late Isaac and Mollie James Jones. He was a World War II veteran, having served four years in the Pacific Theatre, and was retired from the U.S. Postal Service.

Prior to retirement, Mr. Jones was a mail carrier in the Raleigh area and, while living in Wake County, was a charter member of Trinity Baptist Church on Six Forks Road, was a charter member of the Six Forks Road Volunteer Fire Department and was past president of the Wake County Volunteer Fireman's Association.

He retired from Oakland Volunteer Fire Department, was a member of the Bee Keeper's Association of Wayne County, and was a member of Princeton Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and taught Sunday school for many years.

He is survived by his wife, Bernedyne "Dean" Smith Jones of Princeton; a son and daughter-in-law, Ronald C. and Melody Jones of Charles Town, W.Va.; his stepmother, Minnie Jones of Richlands; a sister, Frances Riggins of Franklin; a granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Deane and Derek Forsythe of Princeton; and a great-grandson and the apple of his eye, Andrew Clayton Forsythe of Princeton.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Marvin Ray Jones, Ollie Jones and Marshall Jones, and two sisters, Louise Lanier and Velma Wilson.

The family will receive friends at Princeton Baptist Church one hour prior to and immediately following the service on Thursday.
