GLADYS G. THORNE

SNOW HILL -- Gladys Gay Thorne went home to be with her Lord on Wednesday, July 28, 2004.

A native of Greene County, she was born May 7, 1915, the daughter of the late Columbus Van Buren and Celia Moore Gay. Mrs. Thorne was a retired State of North Carolina Employee from the N.C. School for the Deaf in Wilson. She was a member of Harrells Chapel Free Will Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir and often played the piano.

Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, July 30, 2004, in the chapel of Taylor-Tyson Funeral Service. Committal services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Snow Hill Cemetery.

Her husband, James T. Thorne; sisters, Mary Gay Hart, Lucy Gay Taylor, Bessie Gay; and brothers, James Mark Gay, Claud Gay, Edgar Gay and Joe Gay, preceded her in death.

She is survived by a host of family and friends and seven special nieces and nephews, which at many times, she referred to as her own children. They are; Jean Chase and husband, Jimmy, Rachel Tingen and husband, Rusty, Debra Harris and husband, Steve, Brenda Evans and husband, Lanie and Ricky Gay and wife, Sharon all of Snow Hill; Marie Toler and husband, Robert of Oklahoma, and Joe "Bob" Gay and wife, Julia of LaGrange.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service on Friday evening and other times at the home of Jean and Jimmy Chase, 174 Free Gospel Road, Snow Hill.
