JOHN C. SMITH
John Clifton Smith, 82, of 273 Church of God Road, died Sunday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
A native of Wayne County, Mr. Smith was the son of the late John O. Smith and Maude Tyndall Smith. He was a retired farmer in the Patetown Community and was a member of Stoney Creek Free Will Baptist Church. Mr. Smith served in the United States Army during World War II in the invasion of North Africa and Italy.
The funeral will be held Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home. The Rev. Gary Bailey and the Rev. Barry Williams will officiate. Interment will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Wayne Memorial Park.
Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Emma Cole Smith; one daughter, Anne Gray of Snow Hill; one son, Gary Cole Smith, and wife, Ann, of Kinston; one sister, Doris Hicks of Pikeville; one brother, Durwood Smith of Patetown; three grandchildren, Lisa Grant, and husband, Roger, of Snow Hill, Tammy Chavis and husband, Ricky, of Steadman, N.C., and Brandi Smith of Raleigh ; and three great-grandchildren, Ashley Grant, Deric Grant and Jennifer Chavis.
The family will receive friends at Seymour Funeral Home following the service and other times at the home of Anne Gray, 71 Bradford Lane, Snow Hill.
