LaGRANGE -- Verner Alton Abbott, 66, of 3500 Paul's Path Road died Friday at his residence.

The funeral will be held Monday at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Edwards Funeral Home, with Chaplin Layne Rogerson officiating. Burial will be in Westview Cemetery.

Mr. Abbott was retired from the North Carolina National Guard with over 26 years of service and was owner and operator of Abbott's Country Buffet.

Survivors include his wife, JoAnn Garris Abbott of the home; two daughters, Melanie Jo Abbott Palmer and husband "Skip" of Kinston and Teresa Ann Abbott Davis and husband Freddie Davis of Deep Run; one son, Verner Alton Abbott IV and wife Rebecca Turner Abbott of LaGrange; his grandchildren, Verner Alton Abbott V, "Quint" Jordan Lee Abbott, Harley Nicole Davis, Melissa Bratton McNabb and Amy Bratton; his aunt, Louise Uzzell of Goldsboro; also, Dr. John Abbott and wife Susan formerly of Kinston, and many special friends including Roger Henderson and Donnie Dail.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 8:30 at Edwards Funeral Home, and other times at the residence.
