SURF CITY -- Mr. Barcie "Pie" Best, 73, of Surf City passed away peacefully on Friday.

He was born in Sampson County, March 20, 1931, and was the son of the late Johnny Best and Mary King Best. He was preceded in death by two brothers, James A. (Tinker) Best and Joseph Nelson (Juice) Best; and a sister, Ruth T. Best. A soft-spoken man with a gentle soul, Barcie's philosophy in life was simple, "Live life to the fullest, treat others the way you would want to be treated and cherish your family and friends."

Barcie is survived by four children, John Best and wife Tammy of Snowcamp, Joseph Best and wife Melody of Jacksonville, James Best and fiancee Carolyn of Holly Ridge and Donna Best-Klingel and husband Barry of Burgaw; one brother, Thirl Best of Mount Olive; two sisters, Myrna Best Brogden and Ann Best Britt of Goldsboro; seven beloved grandchildren, James, Haley, Tyler, Ryan, Maria, April, and Chris; four-legged grandchildren, Clarence, Paddy, Chester, Chang and Xena; and one very special friend, Gwen Jones of Goldsboro.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the chapel of Tyndall Funeral Home in Mount Olive with the Rev. Shirley Ward officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Coastal Heart Center, New Hanover Regional Medical Center, 17th Street, Wilmington.

Barcie's family would like to express their sincere gratitude to all the doctors and nurses of New Hanover Regional Medical Center Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit. Your heartfelt wishes and kind condolences have nurtured us.
