REV. ALTON COLIE

LAGRANGE -- The Rev. Alton Colie, 78, of 151 Oakdale Drive, died Tuesday, June 15, 2004, at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

A native of Lenoir County, Rev. Colie was the son of the late Leon and Annie Mozingo Colie and was married to the late Adell Mitchell Colie and Marie Corbett Colie. He was a retired contractor and was also a retired Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Minister. Rev. Colie was a member of Woods Grove Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church and was a minister for 50 years. He served as pastor of Community Chapel, Hassell, Garland, Free Chapel, Brogden Chapel, Southwest, Goldsboro and McDaniels Chapel; all located in eastern North Carolina. After his retirement he returned to his home church, "to be a good church member."

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 16, at 7 p.m. at Woods Grove P.F.W.B. Church with Rev. Mike Grady, Rev. Preston Heath, and Dr. Don Sauls officiating. Interment will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Snow Hill Cemetery.

Rev. Colie is survived by his daughters, Martha Ann Moore and husband, Douglas, of LaGrange and Betty Gleen Walker of LaGrange; his sons, Alton Colie Jr. of LaGrange and Wendall Colie of Clinton; his grandchildren, Doug Moore Jr., Micah Paul Moore, Dan Walker, Jason Walker, Gina Sauls, Michael Shayne Colie, and Susanne Marie Combs; his great-grandchildren, Steven Walker, Georgia Walker, Brittany Colie, Colby Combs and William Sauls; his brother, Willard Colie and wife, Mary, of LaGrange; and his sister, Ruth Rose and husband, Buddy, of LaGrange.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, 5970 Fairview Road, 3 Fairview Plaza S-408, Charlotte, N.C., 28210.

The family will receive friends at the church following the funeral on Wednesday, and other times at the home of his daughter, Martha Moore, 173 Oakdale Drive, LaGrange.

Fellow ministers in the P.F.W.B. churches will serve as honorary pallbearers. Grandsons will serve as active pallbearers.

Seymour Funeral Home is serving the family.
