BELVIN STRICKLAND

SMITHFIELD -- Belvin Strickland, 83, a retired assistant vice president with K. R. Edwards Tobacco Company in Smithfield, died Wednesday at Johnston Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. on Friday in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home in Selma. The Rev. Sandy Schaller will conduct the service. Burial will be in Selma Memorial Gardens.

He was born in Nash County to the late Jesse Bud and Pella Woodruff Strickland. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Pine Level and was name by Gov. Jim Martin as Johnston County's Senior Volunteer of the Year.

He is survived by his wife, Louise Corbett Strickland; two sons, Mike Strickland of Pine Level and Marty Strickland of Clayton; daughters, Patsy S. Olive of Smithfield and Sue S. Goodman of Charlotte; one brother, Freddie Strickland of Smithfield; one sister, Beulah Winters of Smithfield; three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 9 at the funeral home.
