JOHN L. JENNINGS

HERTFORD -- John Lee Jennings, 75, 111 Bay St., died Tuesday at Pitt Memorial Hospital of Greenville.

A memorial service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Jane Love and Dr. Richard Batzler officiating. Burial will be at a later date in a national cemetery.

Born in Jersey City, N.J., he was the son of the late Walter and Margaret Stonebraker Jennings. He enlisted in the Navy in August 1945, worked his way through the ranks, attended Officer's Candidate School being commissioned as an officer in 1957 and retired after 22 years as a lieutenant. Most of his duty was in the submarine service.

After retirement, he worked four years for ITT at the Guided Missile School at Dam Neck, Va., and later worked as a systems analyst for the civil service. He also taught computer classes for two years at College of the Albemarle and was an electronic computer data systems consultant.

He was a member, elder and deacon of First Presbyterian Church of Edenton, a member of the U.S. Submarine Veterans and the National Officer's Association and was a U.S. Navy Memorial Plank owner. He was a member of American Legion Post 126, the Republican party and the Snug Habor Civic League, a member and past president of the Snug Harbor Property Owner's Association and was an active Boy Scout leader in Virginia Beach, Va.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Hotz Jennings; a daughter, Susan J. Johnson of Fontain; three sons, Dr. John Jennings of Goldsboro, Russell Jennings of Sierra Vista, Ariz., and David Jennings of Hertford; and eight grandchildren.

The family will meet in the church fellowship hall following the service until 3:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the building fund of First Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 138, Edenton, 27932.

Arrangements are being handled by Swindell Funeral and Cremation Services.
