JOHN PARKS SR.

KINSTON -- John Dempsey Parks Sr., 72, of 1108 Massey Drive, died Thursday at Lenoir Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Westside Original Free Will Baptist Church. The Reverends Buddy Sasser and John Robert Harris will officiate. Burial will be in Westview Cemetery.

Mr. Parks was a retired service technician with Pepsi Cola of Kinston and was a member of Westside Original Free Will Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alma Anderson Parks and James Milford Parks; one brother, Mahlon Parks; and one sister, Eleanor Wilson.

Survivors include his wife, Zella H. Parks of the home; one daughter, Brenda Parks Johnson and husband, Tony, of Kinston; one son, John Dempsey Parks Jr. and wife, Chris, of Kinston; four sisters, Milner Parks Gurley and Rebecca Parks King of Goldsboro, Esther Parks Yuraitis of Pikeville and Debbie Parks Buttrum of Garner; three brothers, Elton Parks of Goldsboro, Jimmy Parks of Snow Hill, and J. P. Parks of Four Oaks; and two grandchildren, Julie E. Thomas and Kristen D. Thomas of Kinston.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 9 at Howard-Carter Funeral Home, and other times at the residence.

Flowers are acceptable, or memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 930-B Wellness Drive, Greenville, N.C., 27858; or to Westside Original Free Will Baptist Church, P. O. Box 1141, Kinston, N.C., 28502.
