Charles Worth West Sr., of 150 Community Drive, died Thursday at his residence.

The funeral will be held tonight at 7 in the chapel of Casey Funeral Home in Princeton. The Rev. Rose Hicks will officiate. The graveside service will be private.

Mr. West was a native of Johnston County and was the son of the late Needham E. West and Annie Lee Worley. He was a retired GS-11 with the Department of Defense with over 31 years of service. He was with the Air Force Engineering Technical Service working for the 1st Combat Support Group at Langley Air Force Base, Virginia, and assigned to the 4th Tactical Fighter Wing, Seymour Johnson Air Force Base.

He was a member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church, where he served as Sunday School Class president, chairman of the administrative board, chairman of the trustees, financial secretary and chairman of the committee on finance. He was a member of the church choir for many years until declining health forced him to resign.

He served in the U.S. Air Force, attaining the rank of master sergeant, and was a member of St. Patrick's Lodge #617 A.F.&A.M. of Princeton and the American Legion.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Ruby Ingram West; a son, Charles W. West Jr. and his wife, Linda, of Missouri; a daughter, Rosa West Thompson and her husband, Al, of Goldsboro; three granddaughters, Stephanie R. West, Kelly A. West and Heather Schroader; and one special grandson, Alan Worth Hines; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and five sisters.

The family will receive friends at Casey Funeral Home immediately following the service tonight.
