DR. STEPHEN MAZUR

ORMOND BEACH, Fla. -- Dr. Stephen Mazur, 87, formerly of Goldsboro, died at home on Tuesday, March 25.

Dr. Mazur was born on Nov. 29, 1916, in Newark, N.J. He was one of five children. Dr. Mazur earned both his bachelor's and medical degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, graduating from UNC Medical School in 1940.

During World War II, he served as a captain in the Army Medical Corps. After the war, he began practicing medicine in northern New Jersey as an anesthesiologist. In 1951, he married Maureen Foulkes and they were together for 30 years before her death in 1981. In 1967, he and his family moved to Spring Lake, N.J., and in 1973 moved to Goldsboro. Dr. Mazur retired from practicing medicine in 1986, when he moved to Sun City, Fla. In 1989 Dr. Mazur relocated to Ormond Beach where he lived until his death.

He is survived by his older sister, Sophie Strat, of Maplewoood, N.J.; his four children, Cam Blass of Ormond Beach, Paul Mazur of Spring Lake, N.J., and Gary Mazur and Steven Mazur of Raleigh; and eight grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Friday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Ormond Funeral Home
