WILLIAM H. DUKES

PIKEVILLE -- William Henry Dukes, 81, of 131 Crossbow Drive, died Wednesday at home.

A memorial service will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Pikeville. The Rev. Rudolph Rowe will officiate.

Mr. Dukes was born in Charleston, S.C., to the late John and Pahre Hess Dukes and was married to the late Leona Crisple Dukes. A veteran of the United States Navy, he served in World War II on a submarine crew. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion and attended First Baptist Church in Pikeville. He was also preceded in death by one step-son, Robert George.

He is survived by stepsons and stepdaughters-in-law, David and Judy Whaley George of Pikeville, James and Angie George of Ann Arbor, Mich., and Charles and Kay George of Muskegon, Mich., and Judith George of Denver, Colo.

The family will be receiving friends immediately following the memorial service at the church and at other times at the home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Kennedy Baptist Children's Home, 2557 Cedar Dell Road, Kinston N.C., 28504.

Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home & Crematory is serving the family.
