DORIS JOYNER

Doris Jones Joyner, 86, of the Altera Sterling House, died Thursday evening at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

The funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Beech Grove United Methodist Church with Rev. Garland K. Hines Jr. officiating. Entombment will follow at Meadowbrook Mausoleum in Suffolk, Va.

Mrs. Jones was born in Portsmouth, Va., to the late James Jones and Pearl Stout Jones. She was the widow of Francis H. Joyner, the former president and chairman of the board of Citizens Trust Bank in Portsmouth, Va. She was a member of Beech Grove United Methodist Church and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Bennett's Creek Ruritan Club.

She is survived by one daughter, Barbara J. Capps of Houston, Texas; two sons, Thomas M. Joyner of Portsmouth, Va., and David L. Joyner of Virginia Beach, Va.; a twin sister, Dorothy Pegram of Portsmouth, Va.; a daughter-in-law, June Joyner of Goldsboro; and six grandchildren, Melissa Joyner, Michael Joyner, Jay Capps, Dawn Adane, Cory Joyner and Matthew Joyner.

She was preceded in death by a son, Retired Master Sergeant James T. Joyner, and a sister, Gladys Holmes.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8 p.m. at Baker- Foster Funeral Home, Bennett's Creek Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Beech Grove United Methodist Church, 4245 Driver Lane, Suffolk, Va., 23435.

Local funeral arrangements are being handled by Howell Funeral Home & Crematory in Goldsboro.
