MATT SMITH

Matthew E. "Matt" Smith, 35, died Thursday.

A graveside service will be conducted Saturday at 3 p.m. at Willow Dale Cemetery in Goldsboro, by the Rev. Larry Crane.

Mr. Smith, a native of Portsmouth, Ohio, spent his youth in Charlotte, NC and was a graduate of West Mecklenburg High School. A resident of Greenville since 1988, he co-owned of a number of Subway restaurants in Greenville and several other Eastern N.C. towns, and more recently the Brooklyn Pizzeria in Goldsboro. He had served as a volunteer football coach at Eastern Wayne High School.

Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Tracie Kahn Smith; mother, Pennie Hale Smith of Greenville; father and stepmother, Charles M. Smith Jr. and Dawn R. Smith of Union Grove; brother, Charles M. "Jim" Smith III of Greenville; two sisters, Stormy S. Cordero and her husband Fred, and Amber S. Martin, all of Greenville; father and mother-in-law, Berl M. and Brenda Kahn of Goldsboro; two sisters-in-law, Alissa Merritt and her husband Christopher of Pikeville, and Brett Prince and her husband Robert of Fuquay-Varina; nieces and nephews, Hunter Smith, Morgan Smith, Chase Cordero, Cody Smith and Riley Prince; a stepbrother, Shaun Hester of Union Grove; a stepsister, Keri Hester of Atlanta, Ga.; and maternal grandmother, Helen J. Hale of New Boston, Ohio.

Friends are invited to visit with the family at the home, 105 Hearthside Drive, Greenville.
