ROY SMITH

Roy Elmer Smith, 80, of 7004 Summit Drive, died Tuesday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

He was born in Alabama to the late W.D. and Vadie Mae Rutledge Smith and was married to Marie Averett Smith of Goldsboro. A veteran of the United States Army and Air Force, he retired after 24 years of active service. He later retired from Civil Service at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base. A member of Love Memorial Baptist Church, he was also a member of the Wayne Masonic Lodge #112, the Scottish Rite and served as a Shriner with the Sudan Temple.

Funeral services with Masonic and Eastern Star rties and Military honors will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home. The Rev. Johnny Sasser will officiate. Burial will follow at Wayne Memorial Park.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, William Jack Smith of Charleston, S.C., Thomas Roy Smith and Michael David Smith of the home; one daughter, Patricia Ann Smith Pittman of Mount Olive; three sisters, Audrey Smith Grimes and Lois Smith Grimes, both of Centre, Ala., and Bertha Mae Smith of Florida; and four grandchildren, Sandra Gail Smith, William Roy Pittman, Jaime Marie Smith and Patrice Elizabeth Pittman.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 9 at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home and at other times at the home.
