ODESSA E. JACKSON

MOUNT OLIVE -- Odessa Extine Jackson, 79, of 309 W. James St., died Friday at Pitt County Memorial Hospital.

Born in Harnett County, she was the daughter of the late William Garland and Lena Coville Extine and wife of George H. Jackson Sr. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Mount Olive, the Goldsboro Family Y and the Mt. Olive Home Extension Club.

She was a Past Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star, Dunn Chapter 59. She was involved in the Old Dobbs County Genealogical Society, the Harnett County Genealogical Society and was a member of the board of directors for Waynesborough State Park. She was a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, a past state regent for the Daughters of the American Revolution Carolina Patriots Chapter and the Representative to the Veterans Hospital in Fayetteville.

Funeral services and entombment will be held today at 2 p.m. at the Wayne Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel with Dr. Dennis Atwood officiating.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, George H. Jr. and Wanda Jackson of Woodstock, Ga., and Sandy G. Jackson of Goldsboro; a brother, G.L. Extine of Maryville, Tenn.; four sisters, Conchita Kelly of Sylva, Juanita Montieth of Franklin, Gaynelle Brittin of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Janet Sprugeon of Knoxville, Tenn.

The family will be receiving friends today immediately following the service at the Mausoleum Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be directed to the American Cancer Society by the purchase of luminary in her memory to the Wayne County Relay for Life.

Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home is serving the family.
