DOROTHY POTEAT

Dot was the daughter of Harley Maxwell and Mary Barnwell Reece.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, George W. Poteat Sr.; a son, George W. Poteat Jr. of Bostic; and three daughters, Linda P. Rhame of Asheville, Cindy P. Booth of Rutherfordton and Dr. Amy P. Moye of Mount Olive; a sister, Edna R. Owens of Tennessee; eight grandchildren, Lisa Hamrick, Pam and Paul Poteat, Kelly and Katie Booth, Lea Rhame and Ginny and Braxton Moye; three great-grandchildren, Carson and Bailey Killough and Brice Hamrick; and a beloved pet, "Girl Dog." Other dear family members include Emily Price and Mary Richardson.

Dot was a life-long resident of Rutherfordton and a member of the First Baptist Church of Rutherfordton. Dot devoted her life to being a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend to everyone she encountered. Her smile and kindness were never-ending. She has blessed her family and friends with many fond memories and her spirit will live within each of them forever.

Receiving friends will be on Thursday, March 18, at McMahan's Funeral Home in Rutherfordton from 6 until 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Friday, March 19, at First Baptist Church of Rutherfordton at 11 a.m., followed by a graveside service.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Hospice of Rutherford County, P.O.. Box 336, Forest, N.C., in memorial.
