N. BRUCE BARROW

SNOW HILL -- The Rev. Nigel Bruce Barrow Sr., died Monday at the Brian Center in Wilson.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Hull Road Free Will Baptist Church.

The Rev. Barrow was a native of Greene County. He attended Moody Bible Institute and Northwestern Theological Seminary in Chicago and later attended graduate school at Texas A&M University. In undergraduate school he met and married the late Alice Herget Barrow. He was ordained in 1920 at Hull Road Free Will Baptist Church and remained active in his ministry over seven decades. During this period, he served as pastor of more than 30 churches, principally in eastern North Carolina. He served in every denominational enterprise, was assistant superintendent of the Children's Home and was a founding member of the Board of Trustees of Mount Olive College. The Rev. Barrow also managed the denomination's publishing house in Ayden during the 1960s. He and his family established the Barrow Family Endowment at Mount Olive College which funds an endowed professorship in the Department of Religion.

Surviving are three daughters, Miriam Barrow Lamm of Kenly, Lois Barrow Morris of Sumter, S. C., and Jane Barrow Gainey of Havelock; one son, Nigel "Tex" B. Barrow Jr. of Raleigh; and 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 9 at Taylor-Edwards Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Barrow Family Endowment, Mount Olive College, 634 Henderson St., Mount Olive, N.C., 28365; or to Hull Road F.W.B. Church, 3984 Hull Road, Snow Hill, N.C., 28580.
