WILLIAM SMITH II
RALEIGH -- William Nathan Harrell "Bill" Smith II, 57, of Wake Forest, formerly of LaGrange, died Sunday.
The son of the late S. Linton and Lucinda Heath Smith, he received his education at Virginia Episcopal School, Broughton High School and Campbell College. His career spanned several decades in the field of sales and included real estate sales, medical equipment sales, and most recently, he was owned and operated Spring Green Lawn Care of LaGrange where he resided for 21 years. While in LaGrange, Mr. Smith was active in civic affairs in Lenoir County. He served as a two-term member of the LaGrange Town Council, President of the LaGrange Rotary Club, President of the LaGrange Chamber of Commerce, and President of the N.C. Pilot's Association. He served on the LaGrange Library Steering Committee and as a board member of the Lenoir County Educational Foundation, Lenoir County Committee of 100, and Lenoir County Mental Health Board. He was a member of Holy Innocents Episcopal Church in Moss Hill, where he served as Vestryman.
He is survived by two daughters, Courtney Heath Smith of Pawley's Island, S.C., and Mary-Linton Cameron Smith of LaGrange; and a sister, Lucinda Heath Smith McLain of Kannapolis.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Church of the Good Shepherd in Raleigh. Burial will be in Historic Oakwood Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at 1418 Duplin Road following the burial.
