NORBERT WILSON SR.

MOUNT OLIVE -- Norbert Bahnson Wilson, Sr., 94, of 414 Norbert Wilson Street in Mount Olive, died Wednesday afternoon at his home.

Born in Sampson County, he was the son of the late Eli Robinson Wilson and Betty McPhail Wilson. He graduated from Mount Olive High School in 1929 and attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He served in the U.S. Army from 1941-1945, obtaining the rank of master sergeant and commissioned warrant officer JG. He served in the Pacific Theatre and the European Theatre. He was a volunteer fireman for 35 years with the Mount Olive Fire Department and was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Mount Olive Rotary Club and the Mount Olive Masonic Lodge. He was a former alderman for the Town of Mount Olive and served as mayor pro-tem for 8 1/2 years. In 1980, he was named Mount Olive's Outstanding Senior Citizen. He was a long-time member of the First United Methodist Church in Mount Olive and served as the first president of the Methodist Men. He also helped initiate the "Peanut Crew."

Surviving are his wife, Edna Dinkins Wilson of the home; a son, Norbert B. Wilson Jr. and wife, Candice, of Virginia Beach, Va.; a daughter, Carol Wilson Brewer Conner and husband, Wallace, of Pine Knolls Shores; four grandchildren, Christopher Brandon Brewer and wife, Kara K. Brewer, Brette Brewer Best and husband, Roman C. Best, Wilson Clate Brewer, and Norbert "Bert" Richard Wilson; and a sister, Reba Wilson Johnston of Davidson; and a special friend and caregiver, Patty Brock of Mount Olive.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Laura Wilson.

The funeral will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Mount Olive, with Dr. Dennis Draper Jr. officiating. Interment will be in Maplewood Cemetery.

Visitation will be Friday from 7 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home, and at other times at the home.
